Osprey Custom 4x4, the world-renowned custom vehicle builders based in Castle Hayne, North Carolina, are thrilled to present their latest achievement — this handsome 1986 Land Rover Defender 130 Hi-Capacity Pickup – a classic four-door pickup that’s rugged enough to handle any off-road excursions or towing you plan to do and has an extended truck bed!

 

This tidy build is powered by a vigorous 6.2L Corvette LS3 V8 mated to a precise-shifting 6L80E 6-speed automatic transmission with a PCS® push-button gear selector with LED display that distributes power through a heavy-duty, center differential lock-equipped LT230 transfer case to all four wheels ensuring the robust 435+ horsepower and 445+ pound-feet of torque makes it to the ground — power that AutoBlog recently referred to as “unquestionably good”.  Powerful front and rear disc brakes ensure stops are quiet, safe, quick, and efficient.

 

The upgraded, heavy-duty front and rear axles are located by slightly elevated  Fox Racing® 2.0 shocks and springs, Terrafirma® caster-corrected front and cranked rear radius arms, track rod, drag link, and Terrafirma® steering damper, all protected by a heavy-duty, black powder coated aluminum front skid plate. It rides on bold, gloss black 18-inch “Sawtooth” alloy wheels wrapped with 275/70R18 Goodyear® Wrangler Territory® MT (Maximum Traction) tires — offering superb traction, on or off-road with an open tread design that helps the tread clear mud from the tire and provides the traction you need… even when the pavement ends. Please note that the wheels HAVE changed since these photos were taken, but new pics are on the way!

 

The body, expertly finished in deep Santorini Black Metallic with color-matched wheel arches and trim, was carefully reunited with the chassis once back from our in-house body and paint shop. Black powder-coated Terrafirma® rock sliders with integrated tree bars help protect the lower body, and Optimill® black anodized aluminum exterior door handles compliment the Optimill®  black billet aluminum door, bonnet, and windscreen hinges and enhance the stealthy appearance. The front end was treated to a color-matched premium grille, color-matched light surrounds, and color-matched side intake and forced-air wing top vents. Finishing off the impressive front end is a Terrafirma® black powder-coated, high approach angle off-road winch bumper with integrated A-bar, a Warn® VR EVO® 10,000-pound winch for those tricky situations, and twin 4” LED off-road lamps. LED headlamps with smoked marker, turn, reverse, and tail lamps further compliment the monochromatic color scheme.

 

Optimill® black aluminum exterior mirrors with LED puddle lamps and power-operated side steps assist with ingress and egress to the very well-appointed passenger cabin, where you’ll find a modern-style, PUMA-spec, black leather-wrapped dash that provides excellent heating and air conditioning — ensuring the occupants are comfortable year-round. The heated front sport seats are upholstered in Autobiography®-spec Black micro-perforated leather, as are the 3 flat-folding, high-back second-row seats. The twin-panel moonroof with separate sunshades allows plenty of natural light into the cockpit and highlights the gorgeous, piano-black finish center dash binnacle that surrounds the infotainment system, complete with an Alpine® double-DIN, touch-screen head unit with navigation, Bluetooth®, satellite radio, Apple Car Play® and a backup camera coupled to a crisp-sounding Rockford Fosgate® silk-dome speaker array including a subwoofer. Tying it all together is a black leather-wrapped Moto-Lita® sport steering wheel with polished aluminum spokes, billet aluminum-trimmed gauges and HVAC vents, and Optimill® billet aluminum HVAC control knobs, door handles, door pulls, and door lock escutcheons.

 

The leather-wrapped, custom center console is fitted with a convenient storage cubby with two oversized cup holders and for additional storage, there’s also a convenient compartment on the top of the dash for smaller items. The front windscreen is heated for those extra-brisk mornings, and to top it all off, the headliner is swathed in Charcoal Alcantara. Don’t worry about asking this truck to work, however — heavy-duty rubber floor mats protect the fully carpeted front and rear footwells. Security and convenience items include power front and rear windows, and a Viper® keyless entry system with remote starting.
